The difference between IQOS and E-cigarettes

IQOS, e-cigarettes and other alternative products.

When legal age smokers raise questions about the safety of these products that they have chosen to reduce the risk of cigarettes, we need to keep in mind that there is a difference between types of alternative nicotine products:

CURRENTLY, 2 ARE THE MOST POPULAR PRODUCTS: ELECTRONIC CIGARETTE AND HEAT-NOT-BURN TOBACCO

The first versions of the electronic cigarette resembled long pens, but are now available in different styles and patterns. The main characteristic of this type of device is the incorporation of the nicotine absorption and other liquids into replaceable capsules. The device enables the fluid to release nicotine.

Another innovative smoke-free alternative that should not be confused with electronic cigarettes is heat-not-burn technology. This technology enables the heating of real tobacco, avoiding burning. Real tobacco is used for this purpose, which is processed in a certain way to achieve uniform heat.

The main device in this category is IQOS, developed by Philip Morris. IQOS is not an e-cigarette. It does not heat liquid (“vape juice”) to produce an aerosol. IQOS is a smoke-free product that heats tobacco, rather than burning it, to release nicotine and the taste of tobacco.

Philip Morris do not currently commercialize products in the U.S., although IQOS has been authorized for sale in the U.S. as “appropriate for the protection of public health.” and is expected to reach the market in the upcoming months.
